Free Scrap Wood Workbench

I needed a simple workbench. I went to a construction site with a hammer and saw yesterday and asked if I could pick through their scraps. I ended up with enough wood to make a 60″ x 22″ workbench. I also needed some clearance on the end for a wood vise. It’s a small workbench, but I don’t have much space in my 8×8 shed.

There is construction happening all around my house. I was able to find a couple of houses with people working on them who let me pick through their scraps. I found that the best way to do this is to show up with a hammer and a saw to make the wood safer and easier to fit into your car. Also, have a good idea of what your measurements will be so you don’t ruin your wood by cutting it to put it in your car. If you have a truck just chuck it in.

I have a Honda Insight so it takes me a little more time to clean the wood up before I throw it in the car. Got's to keep my girl clean!

You get the idea. Not a lot of room!

The finished product. Since most of the wood I recovered was short, I had to make the top out of 18.8 inch 2x6's. This was fine since my bench had to be skinny.

You can really clean up at construction sites. Just be sure to ask before you dig around. I have some rough plans available. Just shoot me an email.
